Michener Art Museum presents Lilli Gettinger: Memory Transformed at the Michener Art Museum in Doylestown in the Pfundt Gallery. Born in Berlin, Germany, Lilli Gettinger (1920-1999) fled the Nazis in 1938 and eventually settled in the Princeton region. She had her first solo exhibition at the Corcoran Gallery in 1952 and taught sculpture at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City for 15 years. In her polychrome relief sculptures and pastel drawings, the references to the terrors of the concentration camps as well as her own harrowing escape from Germany are intermingled with allusions to literature, art, music, and the Bible. Michener Art Museum presents Intertwined: Contemporary Baskets from the Sara and David Lieberman Collection at Michener Art Museum in Doylestown in the Fred Beans Gallery. This exhibition presents highlights from the holdings of Phoenix-area collectors Sara and David Lieberman, who have assembled one of the finest collections of contemporary baskets in the country. These baskets are made from traditional, natural materials, as well as such surprising media as zippers, copper wire, and fish skin. The selection includes both functional and sculptural forms, and ranges from contemporary interpretations of Native American basketry to more adventurous, avant-garde creations by both American and international artists.
