I snagged this pic from Tulum's Facebook profile.
Just last Friday evening I discovered a delish new restaurant spot in South Side Bethlehem. Nearly a month has passed since I moved into my new apartment and it’s fair to say I’ve done my share of exploring. You can catch up on your reading here and here.
Although, yes, it has existed for several years now, I finally indulged in a yummy, stuffed burrito from Tulum. I’ve heard the Tulum buzz, but it’s taken me awhile to experience it myself. I guess I was waiting for the right moment and for someone to join me in dining there.
Before engaging in our typical First Friday festivities, my boyfriend, Mike, and I walked up to Morton Street into a pseudo-Mexican bodega for our burrito fix. A chalkboard menu graces the wall and is straight and right to the point. Pick your burrito (I chose the Mayan minus guacamole) and order with the cute guys or gals working behind the counter.
Mike and I also ordered a side of chips and salsa; we’re a match made in heaven because I prefer to eat the softer chips (which he absolutely hates) and he prefers the hard ones. By the way, the salsa is quite different. I’m not into spicy foods so I opted for the mild flavor (it boasted a distinct smokiness that I found interesting), but Mike delved into the spiciest of spicy varieties.

Tulum's outside seating.
Limited seating is available both indoors and out, but be prepared to leave smelling like a burritoe if you dine indoors. The space is small, and the grill is literally right there in the front. Fortunately, we grabbed a picnic table outside and soaked in the last remaining hours of daylight.
Tulum is BYOB, so before heading over, Mike and I bought Corona to complement our meal. Yeah, we went all out!
Amazingly, I finished my entire burrito (OK, I lie, Mike helped me a bit). If you’re in the area, Tulum is a must-try. I’m not a foodie, but the ingredients are fresh and Tulum offers snazzy concoctions for those with a curious palate.
