2494eyeshadowGet ready!  Makeup trends for fall 2009 are rich and classic. Dark greens, browns, and other earthy forest colors are used to complement the ever-popular smoky eye. This trend continues to emphasize a heavy accent on the eyes. Look for matte, velvety shadows to complete the look. Smokey eyes and dark eye shadow will continue to be popular, so be sure to invest in some matte black eye shadow. If you want to add a touch of shimmer, a luxurious gold can be used as a hot accent.

Carrying over from the spring, the look for the face is still a fresh, natural finish.  Using foundations that give a soft matte texture with slightly dewy accents provides for healthy, moist skin. Blush complements the foundation trend by being soft and light. Pink tones are used to create an angelic flushed look. blush3

There are two strong choices for your most sensuous asset, the lips. To compliment fresh skin, nude colored lips paired with rich, smoky eyes are a sexy way to go. But if you prefer a more mature look, bold, classic red is as strong as ever. Just be sure and balance them with very natural eyes. Think pin-up or Marilyn Monroe and your look will be in trend.

Say goodbye to pencil thin brows! Brows are still very natural, full, and well groomed. And if you need help getting that perfect shape, brow templates are very helpful.

Now that you are ready to be gorgeous for fall, go express yourself and have fun!

Yes, this is a question I ponder. Especially since Lehigh Valley Style recently arranged to combine our September Happy Hour with a singles meet-and-greet that Natalie over at Looper’s Grille & Bar in Bethlehem’s South Side has been planning to have.

Now, people in the know around here are aware that Natalie is somewhat the matchmaker. She is a wonderful person who just wants people to be happy and she has a couple of success stories to her credit. Apparently, standing behind a bar as much as she does makes her privy to many patron stories of love gone wrong and of quests to find love.

There’s little doubt that being single in the Lehigh Valley, is in itself, a challenge. It was frustrating in my 20s and now that I am in my 40s it seems nearly impossible. Associates are incredulous, too, because they assume that I meet all kinds of interesting people in my line of work and that it would be easy for me to meet potential love interests. Let me say, it is no easier for me than anyone else. I have the same issues as many single women out there. Although age does complicate the matter, I also have several friends in their 20s and 30s who tell me the same thing: They have no idea where to go to meet single people around here.

From time to time (and rather often, actually), press releases for awesome beauty products come across my desk or sit in my inbox just waiting for some attention. I have a great one to share with you this week! If you remember, we recently launched a new section called Brands We Love in our July issue. Kiehl’s just so happened to be the premiere brand, and let me tell you, I have fallen head over heels for several of its products.

I’m not exaggerating when I say I love “thrifting” (you know, the act of thrift shopping?). It’s been awhile since I’ve gone, so yesterday afternoon I went to the giant Salvation Army on Route 309 in Quakertown with my sister and totally scored!

imagesWhen I heard the NFL re-instated Michael Vick for league play I was disappointed. My first thought was, “Who the He** would want to sign that pariah?” I was relieved when I found out several teams didn’t even want to touch him. Then I find out last night that the Philadelphia Eagles signed him. My reason for loving fall is now blown!

You’ll never guess what I did Monday night. I was a guest bartender (along with a few other local “celebs”) at Starters Riverport for the Alzheimer’s Association Bartender’s Challenge Lehigh Valley/Berks Memory Walk Kick Off event, and of course, I want to tell you how it went!

Last night I made my annual journey to Musikfest. I’ve been making the trip since I was rolling around in a stroller. Only difference now is I can finally weave through the beer tent and fill up my mug.
